“He’s at Home”

A short while ago I posted a piece titled “I am very lonesome” by Phebe Folger Coleman whose husband was the captain of a whaling ship, which meant that she was alone, often for many years at a time. Recently I followed a link featured on one of my favorite blogs, Two Nerdy History Girls, from their Sunday post called Breakfast Links on which they include interesting articles spotted on the Internet during the previous week. Among those listed for the week of November 16 was “There Once Was a Dildo in Nantucket” published in The Common that I found fascinating. The upshot of the piece is that lonely Nantucket wives found solace and sexual satisfaction, without compromising their fidelity, by means of dildos known as “He’s at homes.” I leave it to you the reader to check out this article for yourself.
